Schoolies

Before you call me a toolie, I want to make it very CLEAR that I booked my flight to the Gold Coast during Schoolies time by ACCIDENT. I got an email about cheap airfares so thought why not go to the Gold Coast in mid-November? My neighbour Wing and I rapidly booked before the closing date and when we told everyone we had booked they told us it was during schoolies time!! At first we were heaps pissed off and were going to change the date but decided to go anyways. The mailroom guy at work called me a snob for being so against drunk 17 year olds so I tried to change my mindset about it and before we knew it, we were jetting off to the Gold Coast...

I have to admit that I've calmed down a bit lately and all the 'living the moment' philosophy of life toned down as well. Life has been less hectic and although I still go out quite a bit during weekends, it's with a more subdued attitude. I've been in a 'blergh' mood (don't know how else to describe it) for about a month or so where I'm not sad, not overly happily, but just plodding along with life and feeling 'blergh'.

The trip to Gold Coast was what I needed. Despite it being at Schoolies time, it was really refreshing and was really enjoyable. After annoying the poor people on the plane with stories about random crap (such as certain people needing to go to the doctors to clear out earwax because they can't hear anymore), we went to Wet n' Wild on the first day and went on awesome slides! At night we headed to the beach and Wing and I got excited because there were two big stages with music- we had never been to a dance party on a beach before!!

We went during Queensland Schoolies time (each state has a different Schoolies week) and I was surprised at how the QLD 17-18 yr olds were so much more mellow and cooler than our Sydney 17-18 yr olds. I have to embarassingly admit, that Wing and I probably acted more immature than them! They played top 40 songs and Wing and I had a great time bouncing around and singing along on the sand to songs like 'The Bongo Song' by Safro Duo, 'Don't cha wish your gf was hot like me', and other songs like that! It wasn't too crowded because Schoolies officially started the next day. The beach was beautiful at night... I love dancing on the beach!

The next day we just lazed on the beach and sunbaked whilst enjoying freebies as people thought we were Schoolies kids. We met these cool guys working at the Slurpy Chill Out zone where we got free slurpies. At night, we avoided Surfers Paradise (we were actually staying at a hotel next to Cavill Ave) and went to Broadbeach where they have lots of nice restaurants and clubs. We had a girly dinner with Wing's friend Janet who had 2 Queensland friends. After going to a cocktail bar and drinking yummy cocktails (it felt so Sex in the City with 5 single girls together), some of us went to Surfers Paradise and went to a cool club (it's a cross between Dragonfly, Ruby Rabbit, and Lady Lux). Renee noticed the bartender spiking our water. That was a reality check as things go a bit crazy during Schoolies.

On Sunday we pretty much hung out at the beach and we chucked a touch football around with the Slurpy men and some random Japanese tourists. We got free Redbull, Dare Shots, CDs, and more slurpies! A Schoolies guy came up to us and asked if he could play air guitar for us. We had a few young boys come speak to us during the weekend with opening line usually being, "Hello ladies!". Very smooth. Hahaha...

Overall, I had a brilliant time. It was fun eating chips for lunch, ice cream for afternoon tea, and pizza for dinner!

Here is a pic of toolie. His name is Wade. He wasn't afraid to admit that he was a toolie when I confronted him.

I took a photo with the youngest looking person on the beach. Was disturbing. The stuff I do for my blog!

Here is a pic of me dancing to trance on the beach. Was a HILARIOUS scene as people look spastic enough when dancing to trance but imagine dancing on sand to trance! People were all over the place and tripping over.

Here are the Slurpy Men (Alex and Joel) that we sort of befriended.

A collage I made from the photos we took...

Tom Waterhouse's Melbourne Cup After Party

I'm one of those people who don't care about the Melbourne Cup (it IS just horses running really fast around a track) but I went to Tom Waterhouse's after party because Katrina works for him. It's funny because Tom was giving out invites to all these hot girls at the races and Kat stole invites from him and started giving them out to all these hot guys and then Tom got angry at her because he of course has to be the best looking at his own party! I thought the invitation looked hilarious (see below pics) because who would put a picture of themselves like that at the front?? Don't see how he got nominated for Cleo Bachelor of the Year!! Anyways I shouldn't be mean because I don't know him and he appeared to be a nice person. It was great fun dancing with Kat, Jason and Leo and it was funny seeing Tom doing Superman-dance like moves on the table. I love Kat's pose she did underneath the Coke sign!
